DS DAMP PROOFING LTD

"Avoid this company. I had an issue with dampness around a bay window and found this company online. Daniel came to assess the work and advised that the wall would need to be re-plastered and a damp-proof course installed as an additional barrier to the outside environment. The existing skirting board needed to be removed so that the area behind it could also be re-plastered. The work was completed (despite being initially told that DS would come back and fit the skirting at the end of the job, Daniel had a change of heart and I was told that although the company had removed the old skirting as part of the job, they would not be prepared to re-install the skirting). Hence, I sourced an independent carpenter to fit the skirting. The old skirting had also been discarded due to the dampness ingress so a new section would have to be cut and fitted. As the old skirting was screwed into the wall, my carpenter also drilled the replacement skirting back in place. A year later, I am starting to see signs of damp re-appearing so I contacted DS Damp Proofing Solutions accordingly. They came back to the property and very quickly advised that the "envelope" had been breached by the screws that were fitted to secure the skirting and that the warranty was therefore voided. The dampness that has re-appeared is nowhere near the skirting board screw holes. I find it amazing that this company would even suggest this. If screwing the skirting back onto the wall was going to breach the envelope then DS Damp Proofing Solutions should have told me this before leaving the job as a professional courtesy (they will say that in their t's and c's any subsequent penetration of the wall would constitute a breach but I feel they should have said this explicitly to me especially since they themselves removed the skirting that was originally screwed in place!). I have since also obtained a second and third opinion on this envelope theory by family builders who have stated that the drilled holes cannot be the cause / ingress point of the moisture (after all they have not been drilled all the way through past the brick nor are they close to where the dampness is). This is very disappointing and I expected better from this company. I definitely would not recommemd DS Damp Proofing Solutions as the excuses just come pouring in when after-service support is required!"
