"I made the mistake of not checking the reviews before calling Lee at Penny Lane Plumbers who I asked to fit a simple hot water heater in a studio apartment. Apart from the fact that he charged top dollar for what should’ve been half a days work to most skilled contractors, he then was ringing me constantly throughout the day for final payment before the job was even finished [even after paying him a substantial deposit]. I then discovered he had installed the cheapest unit he could find, and when I questioned this and told him that I know these units are known to be problematic, he ensured me that everything would be fine. He told me Scrrwfix were out of stock of the unit I had asked for and so he had to install this one. I immediately checked Screwfix and found this not to be true, with them having stock of multiple different water heaters in store on the day. A few weeks later we then had problems with the electrics blowing and the unit was leaking water. I called up Lee from Penny Lane Plumbers requesting that he resolve this and despite his work allegedly being guaranteed for two years and the unit itself being guaranteed for five, he told me I was on my own. He was aggressive and shouting down the phone at me and would not let me speak. I asked Lee if he could provide me with the receipt for when he bought it and he told me he did not have one. He told me I would have to take the unit out, send it away for a couple of weeks and wait for the manufacturer to inspect it, all while my tenant was without hot water. Realizing he wasn’t going to help in anyway I then had to run around trying to arrange a replacement from the supplier he got it from, who were very helpful, and who gave me a completely different story to that I received from Lee. Two weeks later, after my tenant being without hot water for all this time, I contacted him and told him I had arranged for replacement unit and all he had to do was collected it from his supplier and swap it out. This, he also refused to do, was extremely rude, shouting down the phone at me using every swearword imaginable including calling me the “C” word! The concept of customer service is completely foreign to this guy. Nothing but problems from the word go, can’t carry out simple tasks, quality control is nonexistent, thoroughly obnoxious and rude and all he wants to do is take your money and run. Giving up I then made a call to another contractor who was friendly, happy to oblige and said he would go to the property next morning, remove the unit go to the builders merchant to collect the new one and swap it out for £60. I just can’t believe how simply and cheaply this could’ve been rectified but he had absolutely no interest whatsoever. Do yourself a favor and stay well clear of Lee from Penny Lane plumbers!"

"They ripped me off. £270 to change a bath tap in emergency and left without replacing the bath panel after they took it off. Poor sealant job it was smudged all over the bath.. Not professional and they didn't wear masks. They did not give me a receipt for the works and had to wait 3 days for it and it was not professional at all. They also took my tap and shower head away without consent. Would not recommend at all. Very disappointing and I feel like I've been ripped off by them. Wouldn't give 1 star. Also they turned up and smelt of alcohol on their breath they saw me in a dilemma and were pushy and took advantage of this.. They did not offer any solution when I complained about things they just blatantly ignored what I said.. cowboys"

"This' firm' installed a bathroom sink for me, I bought the sink from them the overflow in the sink tarnished after about 2 months. When I queried the very expensive price the man had a bad attitude. Just had to have the job done again in just over 6 months after it was done originally as it was leaking badly. Most of it had to be replaced.I have had to pay twice now. Reading the reviews I was not going to get them back its said they get aggressive too I'm elderly I don't need this. I would not recommend them. 25 yrs experience they said..."

"DO NOT USE!!!! They seriously rip you off. I had 2 radiators not working and my boiler needed servicing. They charged nearly £600 and all they did was buy and fit 2 new radiators which still dont work. When I messaged and rang to complain Lee became quite aggressive and very rude then said they'd give me a discount of an EXTRA £400 to fix it. Absolute cowboys - stay well clear. Going to report them to trading standards."
