"I first met Paul a few years go whilst I was having a mooch around our community orchard in awe of the selection of apples growing there. He chatted enthusiastically to me about his then role as the Orchard Worker responsible for the orchard’s care, and as we walked about he showed me and informed me about the different species growing there. From that conversation, the seed was planted in my mind so to speak, and Paul and I discussed my long held interest in having an apple tree planted in my garden and how this might work best. Paul visited my garden to do a survey and recommended a James Grieve Espalier for my space which will grow across my garden fence giving some lovely screening from the leaves and beautiful blossom and some very tasty fruit. Paul prepared the ground for the tree, a friend came by and together all three of us had a little “planting ceremony”. I now have a lovely addition to what was quite a bare area. Paul also provided a fig tree-another long held wish-which from a mere twig (I was worried 😬)is now a glorious shiny specimen of a tree! Paul has given me tutelage and support with my trees, as apart from loving plants generally, I do not have clue how to look after them well, so his practical advise has been very useful in this regard and he continues to provide timely maintenance which is very necessary if these trees are going to flourish. I’m excitingly looking forward to watching both trees maturing over the coming years. I find that today’s materialist priorities can be a little skewed so it’s a delight for me to get to know nature a little more. Paul’s specialist knowledge and wisdom around selection, care and maintenance of trees has helped massively in this regard and is quite special. I’m very happy we had that conversation!
